El Matador State Beach is a Malibu beach based along the Pacific Coast Highway in Los Angeles. As one of the most photogenic destinations in all of Los Angeles, this beach boasts a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from the top of a bluff, along with statuesque rock bluffs spread across the sand.
El Matador Beach has been the perfect location to capture some stunning beach landscape and lifestyle shots with a diverse backdrop beyond just sand and water.
Once you arrive at the beach parking lot, you can get a beautiful down angle view of the beach and a down view of the waves crashing along the rock bluffs.
Before visiting any beach (but especially El Matador Beach in Los Angeles), it’s important to check the peaks of low-tides and high-tides. Otherwise, you might arrive at the beach just to realize that all of the sand is covered with water once you walk down the steps.
Back in February of 2023, I visited El Matador State Beach for the first time and captured some sunset images of the beach. Below are more selections of some of my favorite photos of this beautiful Malibu beach.
As a travel photographer, I’m always looking for new places to explore. When I first stumbled upon El Matador State Beach, it instantly became one of my favorite spots to visit to just watch the sunset.
While Santa Monica Beach and Venice Beach both have more attractions in the area (like the Santa Monica Pier, the Venice Skatepark and the Venice Canals), for me El Matador State Beach ranks highest when it comes to capturing a beautiful beach landscape.
Even though the location is far away from the Greater Los Angeles area, I would recommend visiting the area if you have the time.
