Commercial Photography Photoshoot: Calico Yacht Charter - Marina del Rey

Calico Yacht Charter is a boat rental service based in Marina del Rey, Los Angeles that provides a variety of yacht services including harbor tours, sunset cruises, whale watching, Catalina Island day trips and more.

Back in 2022, I worked with the Calico Yacht Charter team to provide professional photography for their digital marketing and advertising. I had the opportunity to take a quick cruise along two of Calico’s boats and capture the interiors and exteriors of their vehicles, as well as capture some video content for their business.

The Location: Marina del Rey, Los Angeles

Even though I had lived in Los Angeles for a number of years, Marina del Rey was one of the coastal cities that I had barely visited. After this photoshoot, I went on to produce commercial photography for other businesses in Marina del Rey including Pacifica’s Marina del Rey Hotel and Hilton’s Jamaica Bay Inn.

With all that said, Marina del Rey is a popular location for yacht charters to be stationed because of the available docks in the area. 

Creative Direction for the Commercial Photoshoot

The objective of the photoshoot was to photograph as many different angles of each yacht charter as possible. Rather than simply sticking to just wide angle photos, I also wanted to capture some of the details of the boat interiors, including the television, golden clocks on the wooden beams, and more.

Additionally, the captain of the yacht charter rode the boats across the Marina del Rey waters, so I had the chance to capture the exterior of the boat while riding across the sea, rather than stationed at the dock. 

Final Thoughts

Having original brand photography is important because it provides future clients an honest glimpse into your business and you have the opportunity to promote the final images on different marketing platforms.

Calico Yacht Charter was a very hospitable client that kindly allowed me to capture photos for their business.
