Los Angeles Auto Show 2024

This November, I went to the LA Auto Show for the first time at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown LA. I wanted to visit the event to capture photos of different car brands and explore the diverse exhibits featuring automobiles.

As a street photographer, I have had a lot of amazing opportunities to capture cars zooming by outdoors. I wanted to take this opportunity to focus on capturing car details that I would not be able to otherwise capture with street photography.

I was really impressed with the variety of cars featured in the show, as well as all of the information each exhibit provided regarding the car models.

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing my experience attending the LA Auto Show for the first time and sharing photos from the event. All of the photos were captured on the Sony a7R III and edited in Adobe Lightroom Classic.

Porsche Exhibit

The first exhibit room I visited at the LA Auto Show was the Porsche exhibit. There were a few cars on display that really caught my attention. One of the first cars was a Roughroads Porsche 176 vehicle. I like the different colors on the car’s exteriors and its placement was perfect in front of the Porsche Downtown LA poster. I also managed to get a photo of a Porsche 911 Carrera T automobile.

I got a couple of closer detailed shots of different Porsche vehicles with the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN ART prime lens. I brought the aperture down to a wide f/2.0 because there wasn’t a lot of light to capture these details. From close up photos of the wheels to the Porsche emblem logo, I was satisfied with getting some of the basic shots in this exhibit.

LA Auto Show West Hall

After leaving the Porsche exhibit, I arrived at the West Hall which featured a variety of car brands and manufacturers, including Ford, Kia, and Subaru. I was impressed with how large the space was and how many different car models were on display.

One of my favorite parts of the entire show was the Subaru exhibit - it had live plants and a very elaborate nature-inspired setup featuring the 2025 Subaru Forester car. The different forest sets and backgrounds really promoted the outdoor adventure aesthetic that Subaru was going for.

HYUNDAI IONIQ 5

Another standout vehicle of the LA Auto Show was Hyundai’s IONIQ 5. The Hyundai vehicles were featured in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center and one of the most notable vehicles I came across in the show was their orange vehicle on display.

I captured multiple close-up shots of the Hyundai vehicle, showcasing the different details of the vehicle.

I stayed in this part of the exhibit for a little while to get some more wide angle and close-up, detailed shots of different Hyundai vehicles.

Final Words

I enjoyed my first visit to the LA Auto Show. I was happy to get the opportunity to see a lot of new vehicles and exhibits up-close as a photographer. Cars are some of my favorite subjects to photograph as a street photographer and the opportunity to capture images in a more controlled environment was a great opportunity to capture detailed photos that I might not otherwise get the opportunity to capture.

I definitely plan to return to another LA Auto Show and get the opportunity to photograph more car models and explore the different exhibits that these car manufacturers put together.

Although this blog was a bit of a stray from my usual posts, I hope you enjoyed reading and liked the photos.

Until next time.
