Outdoor Business Headshots for Companies and Brands
Corporations and brands who are looking to bespoke media content for their companies can benefit from the use of outdoor business headshots. Rather than using a typical white or gradient colored backdrop, outdoor portraits allow you to get creative or fun professional headshots to market yourself and your business.
For companies that don’t have a physical indoor space and that don’t want to rent a studio for their headshots will find outdoor portraits helpful when they work with the right photographer.
In this post, I’ll be going over different tips and advice on how to utilize outdoor business headshots for your company, including:
Choosing the best location for your headshots
Finding the best wardrobe/clothing options
Advice on where you can post your final photos
Outdoor Headshot Locations
There are a multitude of factors to consider when receiving outdoor portrait photos, but one of the most important things to think about is the background of your portrait and making sure that it aligns with your brand.
For example, if your business is based in a metropolitan part of the city like Downtown Los Angeles, then having a cityscape background might make more sense for an outdoor headshot than the beach.
If you have a physical office location with an outdoor space, you can use your building as a backdrop for your headshots.
Regardless of the location you choose, it’s important for the photographer you work with to understand lighting - the best time of the day to take the photos and plan the time of the photoshoot accordingly. Some photographers might also bring additional lighting rather than use natural light, so communicating the location in advance is important for the photographer to get the right setup and not waste time during photoshoot day.
It’s also helpful to plan a few back-up dates in case of potential bad weather.
Wardrobe for Headshots
When deciding on what to wear for the photoshoot, you want to make sure that the clothes are not only representative of your brand, but also fits with the background of your location.
I always recommend that clients bring multiple clothing options with different colors for their photoshoot, but to avoid any distracting patterns or logos (unless it’s your company logo). If possible, it’s great to include one wardrobe option that is formal and another that is casual.
Where To Post Headshots
It’s important to confirm with the photographer you’re working with what usage rights and licensing you will receive with the photos before the photoshoot. If you receive an unlimited license for the photos and can post them anywhere, then you can feature the outdoor business headshots on whichever platforms you want to market your business on, including:
Social media pages like Instagram
Your business website
Online ads
Print marketing like brochures and business cards
