Wireless Bluetooth Speaker Outdoor Lifestyle Product Photography in Los Angeles

This post is coming in late, but last year I walked around Los Angeles doing outdoor product photography with a few different products. One of them included a wireless bluetooth speaker that I wanted to feature in a few different outdoor locations around LA.

With the help of actress and model DeAnza Banuelos, I was able to capture a few different product photos featuring the bluetooth speaker.

Style of the Photoshoot

My photography style generally leans more towards relaxed than upbeat. For this photoshoot, DeAnza came to the shoot with neutral colored clothing, which fit perfectly with the mood I was going for.

Outdoor Locations

The two different outdoor locations that I visited for this shoot were Venice Beach and Griffith Park. The weather for both days were fairly overcast and cloudy. As a result, I was able to get even lighting on DeAnza’s face for the beach photoshoot.

In order to avoid a completely blank background, I had DeAnza pose in front of the pier while holding the bluetooth speaker. While Venice Beach has a fair amount of different objects and structures that can make for a nice background, we were photographing a bunch of products and didn’t have time to move far from our main location.

Lifestyle + Product Photography Comparison

For this shoot, the lifestyle photography portion with a model required more creative direction compared to photographing a product by itself. DeAnza was able to provide different facial expressions and try different poses while showcasing the bluetooth speaker. 

When photographing the product itself, I had to be mindful of how the product was being placed, but it didn’t require additional communication with someone else on set.

Regardless of whether I’m shooting just a product or working with a model, coming into the shoot with a prepared plan and idea of how you want the final results to appear can definitely help production day go a lot smoother than no pre-production preparation at all.

Final Thoughts

I always enjoy getting the opportunity to photograph tech products and electronics like bluetooth speakers in outdoor locations. You can come across obstacles when working outdoors like dealing with unpredictable natural light - compared to shooting in a studio where you have more control over the lighting.

Having an idea of how you’re going to approach the shoot regardless of the weather is important and can yield great results in the end.
