The diverse urban landscape in Downtown Los Angeles features a variety of historic and modern buildings that make the area a perfect location for a downtown photoshoot for portraits.
When you’re working with a model on location for any sort of lifestyle and portrait photoshoot, you want to have a nice balance of close-up images that focuses on the model and wide-angle photos that best showcase the location of the shoot.
You don’t need to live in a city with high-rise buildings to create a successful downtown photoshoot, but you might have to get a bit more creative with how you compose images.
A mood board is a great place to start when you’re thinking of concepts and ideas that you want to feature in your photoshoot. I always try to find a few different images that fit the theme of what I’m going for and show it to the model to make sure that we are on the same page.
Some things to think about when planning your photoshoot are the model’s wardrobe, accessories, background textures, time of day you want to shoot, how long you want to shoot, and how busy your environment will be with other people walking by.
I have done plenty of lifestyle and portrait photoshoots in Downtown Los Angeles with models and actors.
In this blog post, I’ll be sharing a collection of some of my favorite downtown photoshoot portraits taken so far from lifestyle photography sessions over the years. I hope this gallery of images will give you ideas on how to plan your own downtown photoshoot.
